Sunday we sent snowshoeing.Which was amazing. The weather was awesome, the ski was song bird blue and it was clear for miles. This was the most perfect Colorado day for sight seeing. So Mitch and I rented some snowshoes and headed to the mountain.
The lady behind the counter suggested this path that was designed for disabled people to walk thru the wood in the summer. We thought that would be perfect for a relaxing walk in the woods. The path was basically a big circle and as we entered the path you could go right or left. So we decided to go to the right. Looked a little more challenging than the left side.
So off we went and as we went the trail got smaller and smaller the steeper and steeper. We didn't think much of it because there was a part of the trail that went into the mountains and didn't stay on the path. We figured that is what we found. So up we climbed. The picture below gives you a good idea of how steep this was. However it was beautiful to see all the mountains.
This was the path when we got started. Once we got back into the hills if you steeped off the path you were thigh deep in snow.
Then we started to back track and get back on the path and again the path kept getting smaller. Then we hit another up hill battle and this time it was steeper than the last. We kept climbing up and up and up and the trail never swung back around. I kept looking at Mitch telling him I don't think this is the right path and as we climbed Mitch stopped and said I don't think this is the right path because I don't think disabled people could get up here.
We finally decided to turn around again and get on the path we left. Once on the right path is twisted and turned and again the path got smaller. Almost to a point where you had to walk with one foot in front of the other. Again we were on the wrong path, I stopped and let Mitch venture a little further until the path virtually disappeared. He stopped and said less turn around.
So we backtracked and finally came to the entrance. Then Mitch looked down the other path that we didn't go on and said "let's see where this takes us" This path was wide and flat and you didn't need snowshoes to walk on it.
I'm glad we did the discover path because it was the true experience of snowshoeing.
I was going to try to talk about the entire trip in one post but the post is already longer than I expected. So I'll do a second post later.
