Last weekend a few friends and I went to Michigan to go skiing. I took two days of vacation for an extended weekend for this trip. The last trip of the year for me. Which I didn't realize it was going to truly be the last trip for me this season.
We headed up on Friday, got there around Dinner then got up on Saturday morning and hit the slopes at 9:30am. By about 11:30 we moved around the slopes a little and head to the far end. Mitch and I headed to the ski lift to hit a blue slope. We entered the lift pick up zone and were waiting for the chair to pick us up.
I was looking over my left shoulder and the chair was a few feet away. Then all of the sudden a snowboarder slide in between me and the lift chair. I was shocked and didn't know what to do so I turned around to brace myself for some type of impact.
My thought was the ski lift operator will hit the emergency stop and because the ski lift doesn't stop on a dime I might get pushed out a few feet....no big deal. So I leaned forward in my boot preparing my self for the push.
Next thing I know the wind was knocked out of me and I was face down, eating snow, as the ski lift chair was going over top of me.
I somehow was launched out of my skies a few feet. No one know exactly what happened. One of Mitch's skies released and I remember, right before I ducked my head a second to see if Mitch was on the lift but he was being pushed and forced to dance around the lift.
I was a little shaken up but once the lift cleared me I attempted to get up and noticed a pain in my shoulder. Mitch and I walked out of the ski lift area to check me out. I moved my shoulder all round to make sure I had complete range of motion. Which the good thing was I did.
The ski patrol came over and asked me a few questions. Of course, I'm such a girl, and started to cry. It was weird because I don't think I was crying because of my shoulder. I think I was crying because I was completely embarrassed and didn't want people staring.
I told the ski patrol that I think I just pulled my muscle but I have full range of motion. They asked me if I wanted a lift to the ski patrol station and I told them I think I'm fine. The one guy told me that joint injuries can be worse than what they seem at first and that it would be a good idea to get it checked out.
I was fine really...just sore and shaken up a little. I just needed to sit down and rest. So the group and I decided to get back up on the lift and ski down to the lodge to have lunch. Mitch grabbed my ski's and handed them to me. I reached out with my sore arm and grabbed the ski. Mitch released, a sharp pain ran through my shoulder and I dropped my ski and started to cry again. This time because of the pain.
We ended up in the emergency room, had some xray's and they told me there was nothing broken and that it was probably a torn rotator cuff. I needed to see a specialist as soon as I got back to home.
On the way home I schedule an appointment with a shoulder specialist and saw him this past Thursday. They redid the xray's because I forgot to bring the ones from the hospital. The specialist took one look at the x-rays, turned, looked at me and said "well, you don't have a torn rotator cuff......your shoulder is it's broken."
The second I heard it was not the rotator cuff, I was planning my next ski trip for this year to make up for last weekend. Then when I heard it was broken I think my face went pale. There was a minute of silence as I ran through the whole accident and tryed to figure out when did the break exactly happened and why was I not in alot of pain.
All I could say to the specialist, because I was in shock was "are you sure?". I'm sure he saw the complete shock on my face as I was working through what he said. He just smiled politely, turned around and pointed on the xray were the two breaks were. He also explained that I had to have landed on my side to get a break like that and not on my stomach.
He strongly suggested that I get an MRI so he can see if there are is any soft tissue damage around my shoulder. He also wants me to use my shoulder as little as possible for the next week. It will take at least 6-8 weeks for the break to heal.
Before I left his office I scheduled the MRI this Saturday and yesterday I had the MRI. I have an appointment scheduled to see him this coming Wednesday to go over the MRI and discuss the next steps.
You would think I would be anger that this happened but I'm not. I don't like that it happened and I don't like that I can't use my arm for the next 6 weeks but I'm not angry or bitter. I figure I will make it through this and move forward. It could have been worse.

Life List Update
I have to be honest I haven't been working on my life list but recently I've decided I'm going to complete in a sprint triathlon. If you look over on the right hand side bar you will see my life list and things I've completed.
By the end of summer I will compete in a sprint triathlon.
I do have a few challenges.
1) The most important: I have to stay motivated!
This is no small task. The sprint I'm looking at is a 1/4 mile swim, 10 mile bike ride and 3.2 mile run. To tell you the true I don't have the endurance to complete all three right now so I will have to use every week for the next several months to train.
Mitch is going to start seeing more of me than he likes. (Mitch I hope you are up for it!) I will also start using more gas than I like. Since Mitch lives out in the country it gives me plenty of space to ride and run. So I figure at least twice a week I will drive to Mitch's house, change and then either run, ride or practice transitioning from riding to running.
2) The lack of equipment
I'm lacking some equipment such as a road bike and a good swim suit. Swim suit will be easy to purchase because I still have a gift certificate to Dick's Sporting Goods. The bike will be the larger issue.
I have a few option. I could look on ebay or discount stores online and see if I can get a good road bike for less than $1000. The thought of spending that much money on something I'm not sure I'm going to stick with just kills me. I want to make it through my first sprint before I start to spend lots of money.
I could find someone to borrow a bike.....this is a difficult option because it's not likely to find someone who has a bike that will fit my body.
Or I could go the harder way out and just use my mountain bike! I don't like this idea because the first quarter mile is all up hill and having a mountain bike will wear me out more quickly then having a road bike. But if I train on my bike it might not be so bad.
If anyone has any suggestions or a bike I can borrow please let me know:) I'm not to proud to beg!
I'd like to find someone to keep me motivated and to train with. Not sure where to start with that one. For some reason when I ask my friends to do the sprint with me I either get laughed out of the room or simply told "NO". Ummmm, I not sure why....LOL
Anyway, wish me luck. The race will be either Aug or Sept. I have to figure out when the races are.

Illness and Snow = Cancel
OK, the snow really wasn't that big of a deal. Mitch has a huge truck that can run over most any amount of snow that feel this weekend. It's the illness that did us in and we had to cancel our day ski trip.
We are up at the crack of dawn (by the way, Jenni doesn't do well at the crack of dawn!). Got dressed and was about ready to head out the door when Mitch's brother called and let him know that his nephew just throw up and was not feeling well.
CRAP!!!
But we didn't want him to go skiing his first time and not feel well. So we cancelled and I think we are rescheduling for next weekend.
Outside of the cancelling of the ski trip the rest of the day was spend removing a 4ft snow drift at the end of the drive at Mitch's. Ok to tell you the truth...the rest of the day for me was spent sleeping on Mitch's couch while Mitch worked on removing the snow drift:)
After an exciting day of snow removal (and sleeping) we decided to stop by a friends house down the road to visit for a little bit. From there we ran off to dinner and then I headed home. Only to get stuck in my driveway.
I have to say, I did nothing but laugh when I tryed to pull in to my drive at around midnight only to have my tires spin half way up. And yes, I knew driving home I would have this problem...I think I even joked about with Mitch.
The snow was tall enough to scrap the bottom of my car. So I called it quits, stuck the car in park , grabbed my purse and headed up the drive. This morning I got up nice and early to dig a path for my car....now it is safely next to my house.
Overall, it was a good day!

Crazy days!
It's been a very busy year already and I have a feeling it will continue to be very busy.
In January I went on two ski trips! One was to Schuss mountain with Mitch, Beth, Chris and Kelly. The second was the last half of my Christmas gift to Caberfae! Which we just got back from.
This weekend, if the roads are not to bad, Mitch, myself and his nephew will be driving up to swiss valley for a little day trip. Mitch is taking his nephew skiing for the first time. Should be interesting. I figure he will either love it or hate it. I bet he will love it.
My ski trips are not yet over! There is one more ski trip planned in the near future. We will be heading up to Boyne Mountain. I'm completely excited!
I've joined a meeting up group for photography. I haven't had a chance to join one of their meetings. I was planning on going to this months meeting but there is a function at work that will probably end in a late evening party! My co-workers are so fun to hang out with it's crazy. All of them are down to earth and hysterical!
Mom and I are going to host my brother and sister in laws baby shower. And I'm proud to say the baby's are doing well! Only a few more months till I get to hold them:) Anyway the baby shower is in late March.
Oh, how could I forget about the super bowl party! Yep going to one of those too!
Jeez, I almost forgot about my bookclub...I need to write that into my planner as well. I normally add all my monthly stuff in at the beginning of the year but forgot to this time. I really need to put my bookclub in there.
It's great because we won another book for our bookclub. The organizer of the club (Hi DeAnna!) enters our club into sweepstakes and has won several books. Sometimes it's just one book but other times it's enough books for the whole club. This win gave use enough for the whole club.
I have so much to put in here it's crazy. I need to talk about the crazy lady at the subway when Mitch and I went to Caberfae. That will have to be another posting.
To cut it short, last month was busy and this month has is sure to be crazy busy....and I don't want to slow down at all. I still need to schedule a movie night with everyone. That will have to be next month...I think!
Loving life right now!
