Valentines Day!!!! and still going

What a perfect day! Mitch came over and cooked me a wonderful meal…actually, I helped a little, but it makes it more fun that way. It was this pasta fettuccini with spinach sauce and chicken that was breaded and cooked with a type of caper sauce…OK, I suck, I can’t remember the name of the food…but it was all good. He even paid special attention to the fact I can’t have any butter so the fettuccini sauce had no butter in it. Fantastic!!!

He also arrived with a pink rose…and it smelled so good, a hand made card and a bottle of wine from Paris!!! I took pictures of the flower last night…will have to post it later.

But wait, Valentines day is not over!

Mitch is also taking me on a ski trip up North. We are leaving tonight, going to spend the night in a hotel room that is about 30-40 minutes from the ski resort and tomorrow morning we will be at the resort. I can’t wait…we’ve been talking about this for a couple of week and I can’t believe that it’s tomorrow. This weekend it still felt like it should be next week…but no! it’s this week.

Mitch is the BEST!!!! Love Ya!!!

So off to finish up my lunch and then get as much work done as possible so I can go skiing with out any worries!!!!

Tired, Tired, Tired!!! Tired of being tired.

I am tired all the time, constantly. From the time I get up in the morning to the time I got to bed, doesn’t matter if I had a nap or not, I’m just tired.

Originally I thought that maybe it was because I was depressed. But really I’m not depressed..I love life. I enjoy everything that I’m doing so why am I tired? I see my friend and how they have the energy to go and go and go and here I am, before I go anywhere, I try to sneak in a 30 minute nap and hope that’s enough for me to my energy back.

I called the doctor 4 weeks ago to discuss how tired I am. I just had my doctors appointment. I saw him on Thursday. We discussed some things that it might be such as low iron (God I hope its just low iron), thyroid problems (which I just found out runs in my family), diabetes and a few other things. Of course there is always a possibility of a sleep disorder. So he suggested we run thorough the basic, obvious problems (aka he wants to suck the blood out of my veins) and if they come back normal we will discuss doing a sleep test.

So I had to get my blood drawn in a fasting state. Because it was at the end of the day I had to wait until the following day to get the blood work completed plus I had to starve myself for 8- 12 hours. Not a problem I just went early on Friday morning.

Now here was the funny part of the whole thing because I really can’t go anywhere now-a-days and not find something funny. So I go into get my blood drawn I look up at the lady to inform her that I don’t do well with blood draws… “OK” she says. I also told her that I have rolling veins and once again she said “OK”. I thought “wow, I’ve never gotten a response like that, they normally start asking me questions” but nope, she just said “OK”. She proceeds to strangle my arm with the rubber hose and then starts to insert the needle into my left arm. Surprisingly I was doing fine. She was trying to carry on a small conversation about my dogs and I was trying to tell her about them.

Then I realized she was digging the needle into my arm, which never feels good but then she very calmly says “almost there”. I’m thinking just jab the damn vein and get the blood out. Finally she sticks the vein…then all of the sudden things started to go black. It happens all the time, I never make it through a blood draw without at least feeling light headed.

The nurse asks if I’m doing alright and I tell her I feel like I’m going to throw up and she says in her ever so sweet voice “oh please don’t do that, I really don’t want to clean it up”. I have to say, I would have been offended but she really was sweet about it.

She finishes the draw and then placed the trash can in front of me. At that point I wasn’t going to throw up, I was just going to pass out. So in an effort to comfort me she begins to tell me about how she can draw her own blood. I look up at her and said in a soft voice “I’m sorry what?” and she raised both of her arms to display her extremely healthy veins and said there was only one time she couldn’t draw her own blood and someone else had to do it for her. I promptly turned to the trash can and wanted to release anything that was in my stomach but because I was fasting there was nothing to toss.

She gave me some water and then walked away. As she was walking away she said for me to just leave when I was feeling better. I sat there a little confused. Then as my vision cleared up and I was able to stand I walked out needing some food. Luckly, I had a granola bar in my car and ate that before I took off.

I was kinda laughing at the whole experience even as I was going through it. It was some how very funny to me that I was getting sick over a blood draw and for some strange reason she felt the best way to comfort me was to tell me that she can draw her own blood. Ironic…however I find most of my life ironic at this point.

Bookclub Selection

This is something about the first of the year and trying to select the right book for my month. This year, with a little bit of swapping, I was able to get the month of October to hold my book club in, which I am so excited about because this year I am taking the club outside (if the weather cooperates). I’m going to build a fire and we are going to sit around the fire and discuss the book. I’m hoping it will work out alright.

Anyway I’ve been spending the last two month trying to find the right book. Here are a few I have found and am trying to narrow it down to one. Ideally I would like to read them before I select one, but I can tell you I won’t get around to it.

Before you know Kindness by Chris Bohjalian
I wish I had a red dress by Pearl Cleage
Female Intelligence by Jane Heller
Ghostwritten by David Mitchell
You remind me of me by Dan Chaon
3 weeks to say goodbye by ????
The experiment by John Darnton
Passage by Connie Willis

I was leaning on “Before you know Kindness” or “3 weeks to say goodbye” but now I have ran across “Passage” and that has caught my interest. I ordered before you know kindness and I think I will go ahead and order Passage and read both of them and see if they are as interesting as the descriptions make them seem.

I’m sure if I keep searching I will run into more book that I want to read…however I might just have to stop and select one of the 20 I have already found….and yes I said 20 because the list above is just ones I have found recently. I still have a long list from the past several years of books that interest me as well.

I do love my bookclub and I do love reading books!

Slow down and Smell the roses

There are things in life that if I would just slow down I would not miss. Such as this morning. I was running late and racing around the house trying to pull things together. I had to put together my gym bag because I have personal training to night. Then I had to throw some stuff in a bag for lunch, which consisted of a frozen dinner pudding and an apple and finally I had to find my shoes and cell phone.

Since I have been parking in my garage I placed my purse and lunch on the dryer and my gym bag on the ground. I rush to grab my coat while giving my dogs a treat. Chaunzie will stand facing the treat jar until I either leave or give her a treat. Sometimes she really does get in the way.

So I grab the stuff off the dryer and my gym bag and as I am shutting the door I notice Chaunzie facing the dryer. I smiled at her and said “I already gave you a treat and besides there are no treats on the dryer”. Don’t laugh..I really do talk to my dogs!!

I shut the door. The thing is I found it very particular that she was facing the dryer. She’s never done that before but I had to get to work. Now if I would have just taken an extra minute to go back in and see what she was looking at I might have noticed that I didn’t grab my lunch. So only when I pulled into the parking garage did I notice I had forgotten my bag on the dryer.

So now I am at work with no food and forced to go down to the cafĂ© and grab some over priced crappy food. One day I will slow down and pay attention to what’s going on around me.
